About the Artist

Lori Bennett was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Her love for drawing began very early in her life as she would draw sketches of students in her classrooms. She is primarily self taught and began painting in oil over 30 years ago. She had her own successful graphic art business in Lethbridge, Alberta, and worked as a graphic artist for a home building company, in Calgary, Alberta. As well as doing renderings in pen and ink and watercolor, she designed business cards, newspaper and magazines ads, and promotional materials.

She specializes in oil painting and pastel portraits. She has studied art with many qualified teachers here in Canada and the United States. Part of her art education came while attending Brigham Young University in Utah for two summers and during a five-month stay in South Carolina. Her work is enjoyed by many and is in private collections in Canada, the United States, England and Germany. She lived a year in Nova Scotia where she was active in the Aspotogan Arts & Craft Club. While in Nova Scotia she spend much of her time painting seascapes and was please to sell some of her paintings. She has now returned to Alberta and is again residing in Calgary.

Artist Statement

To express myself with my art I often need to stretch myself and do more than I think I can. And when I accomplish this and sell a painting, whether it is a commission or at a show, it gives me the greatest pleasure to know that my clients find joy in the work that I do. I love to paint portraits because children, adults and animals have the most wonderful unique personalities and expressions that inspire me to give loving care and attention to every detail. Sharing my paintings with others makes my goal to paint and stretch myself in this work, I love, very worthwhile.
